So I have hosting, what do I do know?

When you signed up for hosting, you should recieve an email with information on your new account. This contains info to access your cPanel, where you can set up email accounts and access File Manager. The email also contains your FTP settings.

Composing a website

A website is made up of files--usually a set of HTML pages and images--that are displayed on the pages. To make a site you could:

  • Create the site yourself
  • Have a web designer make it
  • Use SiteBuilder to create the files and upload them using SiteBuilder
  • Use a program that is dynamically creates the pages--this includes blogs like Wordpress, systems like Joomla and Drupal

The website files

Most pages are HTML files. There are some other file types for dynamic content, but most pages will be be HTML files.

The first page must always be named index.html and it will function as the default page. This is the file that will be accessed when someone enters your domain name. Without at least a Index page, nothing would display on the site.

Website files are usually created on someone's own computer and then uploaded to the server, where they become accessible on the internet.

Creating the website files

Uploading your website

File Manager and FTP (File Transer Protocol) are two ways you can upload finished website files. When the site is uploaded correctly, it will be immediately available to the public. As soon as your site is uploaded, you can go to the web address and see the pages online.
